Sewing tutorial-16. R65 Button dress


(1) Apply interfacing to the wrong side of front  button placket(4cm/1.6” wide).


(2) Pin and sew the shoulders together with  right sides of fabric together. 
Repeat with lining fabric too.  Iron seams open.


(3) You should have 2 seperate  fronts and backs now (one is outer fabric, the other one is lining fabric).  Now with the right sides of the  fronts and backs facing each other,  sew along the neck line and front and arm hole line as shown. The things that will be left unsewn is the hem line and side lines. 

Trim the points on any sharp  angles.

(4) Through the back hem line, turn  the piece right-side-out.
 Press the edges as shown.
(5) Make the button holes as shown. 

(6) Fold vest together properly, with the right sides out, matching up the side seams. Pin together side seams, with the lining right sides together and the outer fabric right sides together. You will need to  lift up the outer fabric front and back over the armsyce seam to be able to pin them. Sew. Repeat for both sides. Press.


(7) Sew the baste stitch of the bottom edges. 
(8) Sew a two parallel row of long(gathering) stitches around the back skirt.

(9) To gather the back skirt fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other.   Do this on both sides until your back skirt is the same width as the back waist.
(10)Apply interfacing to the wrong side of front skirt button placket(4cm/1.6” wide). Sew a two parallel row of  long (gathering) stitches around the front skirt keeping  button placket part unstitched as shown.
 
(11) To gather the front skirt fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other.   Do this on both sides until your front skirt is the same width as the front waist excluding button placket part.

(12) Face the right sides of skirt together. Pin on and stitch along the side lines.  Serge or zigzag red line at the edge as shown. Press seams towards back. 


(13) Fold the 1cm(0.4”) from the raw edge of button placket to the wrong side and  fold and press 3cm(1.2”) to the  wrong side again. Repeat with the other piece.




(14) Match the skirt to bodice waist line with right sides together as picture shown.  Align the skirt and bodice right sides  together. Pin all the way around  waist line  excluding button placket part.

(15) Then fold the 1cm(3/8inch) from the raw edge to the wrong side.  Then the fold  3cm(1.2inch) to the to the right side   as shown.

  (16) Then pin them for fixing.  
(17) Sew all the way around waist line as shown. Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.
(18) Trim the points on sharp angles as shown.


(19) Turn button placket inside out. 
Then edge stitch button placket as shown. Repeat with the other piece. 
(20) Make the button holes as shown.

(21) On the wrong side of skirt, fold twice concealing the cut edge and press. Sew the hem as shown. 
Hand stitch the buttons as shown.
