Sewing tutorial-15. R64 Bloomer

 

(1) Place the bloomer pieces right sides  together, matching up all side edges.  Pin the curved front and back seams  together, and sew them, keeping opening  unstitched as picture shown.  

It will be opening for elastic band.  Serge or overlock them together before  opening starts as shown.  Finish seam if desired with a serger,  zigzag stitch or pinking shears.

(2) Turn the bloomers so that the front and  back seams are on the top and bottom,  and press. Pin the bottom leg seam,  still with right sides together, and sew the  bottom leg seam,keeping opening  unstitched as picture shown.   It will be opening for elastic band.  Serge or overlock them together before  opening starts as shown.  Finish seam if desired with a serger,  zigzag stitch or pinking shears.

(3) For the waist, on the wrong side of bloomers, fold 3/8”(1cm) concealing the cut edge then fold 2”(5cm)-Top line. Then press. Sew 1″(2.5cm) from the top of the bloomers, all the way around. Make a second stitch around 3/4”(2cm) from the  first stitching line to create a casing for elastic. 

For the leg, on the wrong side of bloomer, fold the  1cm(3/8”) from the raw edge to the wrong side  and then 1.5cm(5/8”) again. Then edgestitch it as shown. Repeat with the other piece. 

(4) Pull the elastic band trough the tunnel with the help of a safety pin. Lap the ends of the elastic by half inch and  stitch them together. Hand sewing the opening shut.
