Sewing tutorial-38. R82 sewing pattern



1. Dress

Fold each of the two straps in half lengthways, right sides together. 

Pin together the long raw edges on each strap.

Stitch the all the way around the straps as picture shown.

Keep the opening unstitched.


Cut every sharp edge.


Turn inside out through the opening.

Press them.

And edge stitch along length of strap.

Repeat with the the other strap.


Now with the right sides of the front pieces each other, sew along the center front as shown. 

Press seams open.

With right sides together pin straps into place on front.  

Now with the right sides of the front and  facing each other, sew along the top edge as shown. Turn the piece right-side-out. Press the edges. 

Sew bottom edge of the front.

Sew a 2 parallel row of long(gathering) stitches center front. 
(Stitch length long, tension low/loose)
 Gathering the center front as picture.

Fold bow center  in half lengthways, right sides together. 
Pin and sew together the long raw edges on bow center as shown.

Turn inside out through the opening.

Press them.


 Wrap the middle around the bow and stitch the ends at the bottom edge as shown. 

Serge or zigzag stitch at each side.

Fold twice from the top edge to the wrong side.
 Then edge stitch the fold line. 


Pull the elastic band through the tunnel with the  help of a safety pin. Do a small stitch the elastic band to the beginning and end of tunnel at both sides to fix as  shown.

Serge the side lines of back. 

Match the front and back with right sides together. Stitch them together as shown. 

Press seams open. 


Serge or zigzag stitch at the top edges.

Fold 2cm(3/4”) top edge of pocket  to the wrong side.
Then edge stitch as shown.


Fold pocket bowed pocket bow center in half lengthways, right sides together. 
Pin and sew together the long raw edges on bow and bow center as shown.

Turn inside out through the opening.

Press the strip with the raw edges meeting in the middle and wrong sides together. Press it in half again. 


Wrap the middle around the bow and stitch the ends at the back. Depending on the thickness of your fabric, you may need to cut it a little shorter.


Place and stitch bow onto the right side of one of your pocket piece.

Fold the rest of the edges. Iron the edges in toward  the wrong side of the fabric on each pocket. 


 The pocket is now ready to topstitch onto your right side of skirt. 
Align it based on the markings on your pattern.  Stitch pockets  to the front side as shown. 

Serge or zigzag stitch at these seams.

Match the front skirt and back skirt with right sides together. Stitch them together as shown.
Press seams open. 

Sew a parallel two row of long(gathering) stitches around the front skirt. 

 To gather the front skirt simply hold the  fabric still in one hand and pull one of the  loose threads  with the other. 
Match the top edges of right sides of  front and front skirt.  Stitch and serge them together as shown. 

Match the skirt to bodice waist line with right sides  together as picture shown. 
Align the skirt and bodice right sides together. 

Pin all the way around  waist line and sew as shown.  Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.

Press seam allowance towards top and edge stitch for making elastic tunnel as shown. 





Pull the elastic band through the tunnel with the  help of a safety pin. 



Do a small stitch the elastic band to the beginning 
and end of tunnel at both sides to fix as  shown.

Make button holes at the strap. 

 Hand stitch buttons at the back.
On the wrong side of pants, fold 1.25cm(1/2”) of hem and press. 
Sew the hem as shown.

2. Long romper

Do the bodice step of dress.


Topstitch pocket onto your right side of front pants. 
Align it based on the markings on your pattern.  Stitch pockets  to the front side as shown. 


Sew a parallel two row of long(gathering) stitches around the front pants. 


 To gather the front pants simply hold the  fabric still in one hand and pull one of the  loose threads  with the other. 
Match the top edges of right sides of  front and front pants. 
 Stitch and serge them together as shown. 

Match the front and back with right sides together. Stitch them together as shown.
Then pin on and stitch along the inseam lines.  Serge or zigzag seams as shown.

On the wrong side of pants, fold 1.25cm(1/2”) of hem and press. 
Sew the hem as shown.



Match the skirt to bodice waist line with right sides  together as picture shown. 
Align the skirt and bodice right sides together. 

Pin all the way around  waist line and sew as shown.  Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.


Press seam allowance towards top and edge stitch for making elastic tunnel as shown. 

Pull the elastic band through the tunnel with the  help of a safety pin. 

Do a small stitch the elastic band to the beginning 
and end of tunnel at both sides to fix as  shown.

3. Short romper

Do the bodice step of dress.


Sew a parallel two row of long(gathering) stitches around the front romper. 

 To gather the front romper simply hold the  fabric still in one hand and pull one of the  loose threads  with the other. 
Match the top edges of right sides of  front and front romper. 
 Stitch and serge them together as shown. 

Apply interfacing to the  wrong side of romper button placket 2.5cm(1”) wide. 

Face the right sides of front romper pants and back romper pants together. Pin on and stitch along the side lines. Serge or zigzag red line at the edge as shown. Press seams towards back. 

Serge or do zigzag the raw edge of leg line as shown. 
On the wrong side of leg line, fold 1.25cm/1/2inch concealing the cut edge and press as shown.  
And edge stitch along the leg line as shown. 





Pull the elastic band trough the tunnel with the help of a safety pin. Do a small stitch the elasticband to the  begining and end of leg line at both sides to fix as picture shown.


 And Serge or do zigzag the raw edge of snap button placket.

On the wrong side of placket, fold 2.5cm(5/8 inch)once  concealing the cut edge and press. 
Sew the croth line as shown. Repeat with the other side.    


 Add snaps to the front and back placket.  

4. Pants

Fold twice concealing the cut edge of front frill and press. 

Pin and stitch the back crotch  line only together as  shown. 
Right sides of fabric together. 
Press seams open.  


Pin and stitch the front crotch  line only together as  shown. 
Right sides of fabric together. 
Press seams open.  

Sew a parallel two row of long(gathering) stitches around the front frill. 
 To gather the front frill simply hold the  fabric still in one hand and pull one of the  loose threads  with the other. 
Match the top edges of right sides of  front and front frill. 
 Stitch and serge them together as shown. 

 Stitch the frills to the pants as shown. 

 Match the front pants of right sides  and front York. Stitch and serge them together as shown. 

Face the right sides of pants together. Pin on and stitch along the side lines.  
Serge or zigzag red line at the edge as shown.  Press seams towards back.


Face the right sides of waist bands . Stitch as shown, keeping opening unstitched. 

On the wrong side of hem, fold twice concealing the cut edge and press. 
Sew the hem of pants as shown. 





Fold waist band half. Press it along. 

Sew a parallel row of long (gathering) stitches around the waist line of pants.
 (Stitch length long, tension low/loose) 
To gather the pants fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other. 
Do this on both sides until your pants is the same width as the each waist. 
Repeat with the other piece. 


Face both right sides of pants and waistband. Make sure both center and side lines are matched.  
Stitch them on and zig zag or serge the seam allowance.



Insert elastic band into the opening. Band fits firmly around waist. 
Overlap at ends and sew to secure as shown.

 Hand sewing the opening shut.
