Sewing tutorial-27. R72 sewing pattern- Tiered dress

1. Sleeveless dress/Top


Fold 0.5cm(3/16”) twice concealing the cut edge  of frill (straight line) and press. 
 Sew the hem as shown. 
Sew a parallel row of long(gathering) stitches  around the frill. 
(Stitch length long, tension low/loose) 

Pin and sew the shoulders of front and back together with right sides of fabric together.  

Press seams  open.


 Gathering the frill as picture.


Stitch the frills to the armhole line with right sides together as shown. 



You should have 2 seperate  fronts and backs now (one is outer fabric, the other one is lining fabric).  Now with the right sides of the  fronts and backs facing each other, 
sew along the arm hole line as shown. 




sew along the neck line and front and arm hole line as shown. 
The things that will be left unsewn is the hem line and side lines. 

Trim the points on any sharp  angles.


Through the back hem line, turn  the piece right-side-out.
 Press the edges as shown.

Fold top together properly, with the right sides out, matching up the side seams. 
Pin together side seams, with the lining right sides together and the outer fabric right sides together. You will need to  lift up the outer fabric front and back over the armsyce seam to be able to pin them. Sew. Repeat for both sides. Press.




Top stitch  along the neck line and front and arm hole line as shown. 
 Make the button holes as shown. 

Sew the baste stitch of the bottom edges. 

Serge side seams of skirt pieces as shown.

Face the right sides of skirt together. Pin on and stitch along the side lines. Press seams open. For the skirt3, stitch 3 pieces of skirt3 and press seams open as shown.

 Sew a two parallel row of long(gathering) stitches around the 6 skirt pieces
(3 front skirts+3 back skirts) .

To gather the skirt3  fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other.   
Do this on both sides until your skirt3 is the same width as the hem line of skirt2.

And to gather the skirt2  fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other.   
Do this on both sides until your skirt2 is the same width as the hem line of skirt1.

And to gather the skirt1  fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other.   
Do this on both sides until your skirt1 is the same width as the bottom line of Top.

Match the bottom line of skirt2 to top line of skirt3  with right sides  together as picture shown. 

Align the bottom line of skirt2 and top line of skirt3  right sides together. 
Pin all the way around  waist line and sew as shown. 
 Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.

Match the bottom line of skirt1 to top line of skirt2  with right sides  together as picture shown. 
Align the bottom line of skirt1 and top line of skirt2  right sides together. 
Pin all the way around  waist line and sew as shown. 
 Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.

Match the bottom line of bodice(top) to top line of skirt1  with right sides  together as picture shown.

Align the skirt and bodice(top) right sides together. 
Pin all the way around  waist line and sew as shown. 
 Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.

On the wrong side of skirt,  fold twice concealing the cut edge and press.  Sew the hem as shown. 

2. Long sleeve dress/Top


Apply interfacing to the wrong side of back  button placket (3.5cm/1”+3/8" wide).

Fold the 1cm(3/8”) from the raw edge to the wrong side and  fold and press 2.5cm(1”)  to the wrong side again.  Repeat with the other piece.

Pin and sew the shoulders of front 
and back together with right sides of fabric together.  
Serge or zigzag stitch the shoulders together as shown. 


Press seams towards the back. 

 Then fold the 1cm(3/8inch) from the raw edge to the wrong side.  Then the fold  3cm(1.2inch) to the to the right side as shown. Then pin them for fixing.

Press 3/8″(1cm) bias bindings in lengthwise.
Then fold the 1cm(3/8inch) from the raw edge to the wrong side.  Then the fold  3cm(1.2inch) to the to the right side as shown. Then pin them for fixing.
Now pin your bias tape to the bodice neckline with right side together.

 Sew along the neck line as shown.
Trim the points on any sharp angles and cut half of the seam allowance along the curve.


Turn the button placket part inside out.  
 And fold the binding to the inside of the garment, rolling the seam line in slightly to hide it on the inside of the garment.  
Fold the raw edge of the binding under along the line you pressed earlier, 
and pin this  fold to the inside  of the neck line.  
Continue to press the binding to the other side.
 Topstitch the binding to the neck line close to the inside fold.

Then edge stitch button placket as shown. Repeat with the other piece. 
Make the button holes as shown. 
Using your CB (center back line) as a guide,  lay your left piece overlapping the right piece  and pin  in place. Sew the baste stitch. 
Sew a parallel row of long (gathering) stitches around the waist line of skirt1.
 (Stitch length long, tension low/loose) 
To gather the skirt fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other.   Do this on both sides until your skirt is the same width as the each waist. Repeat with the other piece. 

Stitch the skirt to the bodice(top) with right sides together as shown.
Serge or zigzag stitch the seams together as shown. 
Sew a parallel row of long (gathering) stitches around the sleeves 
 (Stitch length long, tension low/loose) from gathering starts until gathering ends.
To gather the sleeves simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other as shown. 
Do this on both sides until your sleeves are the same width as the side of bodice as shown.

Stitch the sleeves to the bodice with right sides together as shown.
Serge or zigzag stitch the seams together as shown. 
Pin and stitch the front and back together  as shown, right sides of fabric together. 
 Serge or overlock them together.
On the wrong side of sleeve, fold twice  concealing the cut edge. 
 Pin all the way around sleeve hem line and sew. 
Stop your line of stitching about 2cm (0.8”)  before you reach the point where you began  this leaves you an entrance hole to access  your elastic band tunnel.
 Pull the elastic band trough the tunnel with the  help of a safety pin. Lap the ends of the elastic by  half inch and stitch them together. Hand sewing the opening shut.
 Sew a two parallel row of long(gathering) stitches around the skirt piece.
To gather the skirt fabric simply hold the fabric still in one hand and pull one of the loose threads with the other. Do this on both sides until your skirt2 is the same width as the bottom of skirt1. Repeat with the other piece. 
Face the right sides of skirt together. Pin on and stitch along the side lines.  Serge or zigzag side line at the edge as shown. Press seams towards back. 
Match the bottom line of skirt1 to top line of skirt2  with right sides  together as picture shown. 

Align the bottom line of skirt1 and top line of skirt2  right sides together. 
Pin all the way around  waist line and sew as shown. 
 Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.


Stitch 3 pieces of skirt3 together. Face the right sides of skirt3 together. Pin on and stitch along the side lines.  Serge or zigzag side line at the edge as shown.
Match the bottom line of skirt2 to top line of skirt3  with right sides  together as picture shown.

 
Align the bottom line of skirt2 and top line of skirt3  right sides together. 
Pin all the way around  waist line and sew as shown. 
 Serge or do zigzag the raw edge.

On the wrong side of skirt,  fold twice concealing the cut edge and press.  Sew the hem as shown.
